Bios and Influences

David Brown // Bass, Vocals

I was exposed to the panorama of artistic expression through my parents, and
their UMC community.  My mother is a classically trained soprano,
and my father, a self-taught baritone, met her in a church chorale.
They knew the music they enjoyed, but they were OPEN to suggestion, so i was.
Though i believe all music connects to all other music through tradition,
influence, and passionate emotion, i am partial to the Motown/Stax era
of the 1960's, and the 'crossover age' of 1980's Rhythm & Blues.
The GROOVE sustains life, as the heartbeat.

Brent  Young // drums

My style and approach to drumming has been inspired by musical drummers who shape the music with dynamics and don't shy away from stretching technically.  I've modeled much of my drumming vocabulary from my biggest influences: Sean Reinert (Cynic), Mark Zonder (Fates Warning), and Simon Phillips (Toto).  Bands like Dream Theater, Rush, and Porcupine Tree challenge me to create drum parts that are challenging yet musical.  My role is to help provide contour to our music through tension and release - something that I discovered as a drummers most powerful contribution from some outstanding worship music and some very gifted worship leaders.

Being the daughter of a military Dad and a Bohemian artist Mom, everything I write tends to taste like a protest song!  I was born in America and raised internationally so I see the world in a multifaceted way, with respect and compassion for all, as my lifelong Christian belief instructs.  From the womb, my parents made sure I was rockin' out to Kabuki theatre and Chinese opera, along with their Motown and British Invasion albums cranked out from their way back machine.  Although I'm classically trained in Opera, my soul belongs to Rock 'n Roll!  I navigate this thing called life by Neil Young, David Bowie, Decemberadio, Rock and Roll Worship Circus, The Pretenders, Joan Jett, early U2, Pete Yorn, 16 Horsepower/Wovenhand, Velvet Revolver, Sixx A.M., Elvis Costello and Genesis (with and without Peter Gabriel), and I just love Picasso--especially the poems!

Danny Posthuma // Guitar

I learned how to play guitar by jamming along to Led Zeppelin, strumming with Neil Young, and finger-picking with Donovan.  I was immediately attracted to any guitar line that was catchy, heavy, or just all out dominating. My idols were Jimmy Page, Neil Young, Jim McCarty from Cactus, Ritchie Blackmore, and the Hawkins brothers from the Darkness.

I love dark sounds. They make people feel uneasy. They have to watch and listen to feel safe, otherwise who knows what could happen. And when that's combined with the hope that's found in many of our lyrics it provides the listener with a 3 to 4 minute sound bite of the Christian life - uncertainty founded on an unshakeable hope. That's what I love about our music.
